From Poverty to an Instrument of Light

Felicidade! Congratulations to Catarina Raquel Chuc who graduated on November 18, 2009 from Mariano Calvez University's School of Humanities with a major in social work.

As one looks back on the years past and see the children knee high asking for another plate of food, needing help tying their shoes, fixing a broken toy, bandaging a skinned knee or sharpening their pencil; suddenly they are all grown up and finishing studies at the university level. Time flies really fast!

Many who have read the newsletters in the past may remember one of my first students, Cata Raquel, who was five years old when the school started in 1987. I have seen her go through primary school, high school, career school and the university as well as working at the school as a teacher. She has overcome many obstacles, trials and difficulties, and is a victorious warrior in God's army.

We thank God for Cata's wonderful achievement, and for His faithfulness in our walk with Him. Cata will be continuing her studies to obtain her social work license. Thank you for your continuous prayers and support for the school, as other students will soon pass this threshold of victory from poverty to becoming an instrument of God and a beacon of light to encourage others that it is possible to overcome any obstacle and reach for your dreams. With Jesus all things are possible!

Thank you, from the children of Mi Refugio.

The enclosed is a little thank you from the children at Mi Refugio for the generous financial support the church provided which enabled us to purchase the much needed new school bus. Kari, the staff and the children are thrilled with the bus!

God Bless,
