EC09 Field Update: Day 7

Folks, words fall drastically short of conveying how honored I feel, and what a privilege it was to have been included in this trip to Estonia. I was able to see God bring the 14 of us together to form a group that was single-minded in our dedication to Him and to serving 69 of the most wonderful young people I've ever met. We prayed for open, receptive hearts. God delivered. We introduced them—some for the first time—to a loving, powerful and faithful God. I got to see the light bulbs go on in the heads of kids who had been told there was no God. Many of these students came from broken homes, others from abuse and some were even orphans. I got to share with one girl on Monday who, 2 days later, became my sister in Christ. These kids looked up to us, loved us, and all we did was love them. I've made real friends, and I can't wait to get back to Estonia in 2010! We serve a great and mighty God, and believe me—the only real ability that He requires of us is availability.

What can I say? This week here in Estonia has gone by so quickly as we watched God at work in the students' lives and our lives. God has been changing each of our hearts, which will be a forever life change. Personally, I will say this week will hold a special place in my heart and a prayer that each student will take more steps closer to knowing Christ personally and/or growing in their journey with Christ. A few of these students made an incredible decision to accept Christ into their lives, which is a huge as it will affect their lives in many different ways.

Today, our team and the Estonian leaders had a time of de-briefing about all that occurred this week…amazing! To hear how God even placed certain students in our rooms or in our small groups, which could have only been orchestrated by God, was incredible. I don't know how else to say it. From a personal perspective I had two sisters in my room whose grandpa went home to be with the Lord on Monday. They shared how their grandpa was like a father to them along with being a spiritual leader as their dad was not involved in their lives. It struck a tender part of my life since my dad's home going a few years ago, and my heart broke as I thought about and prayed for them this week. They were such an encouragement to my life by their desire to stay at English camp and then being able to spend time praying with them. Their life events seemed to be drawing them closer to God, where some for some of us we would have been saying what are you doing God. Instead I heard them say, "But my grandpa is in a better place…he is in heaven." Wow!!

Tonight was our last chance to spend time with the students at a weekly youth event called Lift. The evening consisted of singing praise songs in Estonian, playing games and just having fun. Many tears were seen as we said one more final good-bye to the students who came to the event. The Estonian students have such tender hearts by the way they reached out to each of us on this team and by the words they shared tonight. One more day in Estonia…where did time go?
